In the summer, they competed at the ECI (East Coast Invitational) in Jacksonville, NC and showed a ton of promise. They also have put in some work over the past few weeks in open gym and workouts. A few players stood out to me over the summer and recently. My thoughts on them are listed below.
2018: Shykiem Wooten stands at about 6’1” with a very compact and sturdy body. As a sophomore, he averaged 10 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists coupled with 2.6 steals. He has been a starter since his freshman season and looks to take a step further as a leader of this team in his junior season. Defensively, Wooten gets low and bodies up with ball-handlers, frustrating them with his quickness and physicality. Offensively, he’s very strong and finishes strong at the rim and makes shots along the perimeter. Will probably have quite a few rim rattling finishes this season which will definitely send Munn Gymnasium into a frenzy.
2019: Shamon Wooten, younger brother of aforementioned Shykiem Wooten, Shamon is a very quick, shifty 5’10” scoring guard that got to the rim at will. Off the dribble he is relentless in attacking and gets into the paint on tons of possessions. He is wired to score the ball. Should he develop more of a passing game to keep help defenders honest, he could really become a versatile high volume scoring threat.
2017: Roger Monroe was a smooth 5’10” lefty that consistently knocked down jumpers from all over and used some crafty ball-handling to get to his spots. Whether he starts or is first off the bench, he will provide you with shooting, quickness, ball-handling and heady play. Jucos should definitely come check him out. A sleeper guard prospect.*
2018: Justin Dixon stands at 6’4” with a solid overall game. He plays on the wing and brings a steady pace and consistency to the team. He’s long, runs the floor well, handles the ball and can get going from mid-range territory. Also a great student in the classroom. Division 3 schools should start checking in on him to track his play.*
