It could be because of his football prowess (five offers as a wide-receiver), but whatever it is, Kentucky’s 56th-ranked 2017 seems to be under the radar a bit up to this point.
“For basketball I don’t have any offers, but I have a couple for football. The only school that has sent me letters or even bothered to talk to me was Lindsey-Wilson, they were texting me and invited me up to a couple camps, but I had football so I wasn’t able to attend” said Wells.
As a wide-receiver Wells says he’s picked up five offers; Western Kentucky, Tennessee-Martin, Georgetown, Campbellsville, and Lindsey-Wilson.
But he insists that hoops is his first love.
“The way it looks right now, I could end up playing football,” he said. “But basketball is my favorite sport so I’m going to see how the season goes, and hopefully I end up playing basketball.”
A versatile threat for the Greyhounds, Wells went on to define his playing style to PHKY.
“I’m good in transition, and spacing the floor. And I’m good at handling the ball and I can get to the basket. I can play the one through three for my high school team, and even the four sometimes,” said Wells, who spent his spring and summer playing with Central Kentucky Storm’s 17U squad.
“I really focused on defense a lot more, and picking up my man as soon as he gets the ball and guarding him the length of the floor. And also my jump-shot is something I really worked to improve.”
As he heads into his senior season, Wells mentioned his objective is to do whatever it takes to help his team win games.
“I want to take over more games than I did last year, and just do a lot of little things like rebound and make sure my man doesn’t score,” he said. “I’m just willing to do whatever to help my team win.”
