The additions of Pulaski Southwestern teammate transfers Danny Butt and Steven Fitzgerald are sure to catapult Pulaski County to one of the favorites to win the 12th Region and secure a trip to Rupp Arena for the Sweet 16 state tournament. Prep Hoops KY caught up with Danny Butt to talk about his recruitment, off-season progression, and expectations for the upcoming season.
SUMMER AAU PLAY
Danny spent the 2016 summer playing with the Louisville Magic, an adidas Gauntlet participant. It should also be noted that he played in every summer game with his high school team, recording a 22-1 showing with their only loss coming to defending Kentucky state tournament winner Paul L. Dunbar High School. “It was a very busy but exciting summer for me. I loved playing for the Magic. I’ve been with them since playing 15U ball. The coaches with the Magic do a great job of getting us the proper training to take our game to the next level”, said Danny. “But it was also really nice playing with my high school team and building some continuity with them. I’ve really been working on becoming a leader and helping every player, from the starters to the last guy on the bench. So I’m really glad I was able to do both.”
OFF-SEASON PROGRESS
Danny’s list of strengths are notable. An excellent ball hander, a tremendous rebounding guard (over 7 rebounds per game last season), scoring, court-vision, and the list continues. But like all good players looking to become great, he’s continually looking at ways to get better. Danny said that he worked on his body this off-season. “I wanted to make sure my body is where it needs to be physically. There is an obvious difference in playing high school ball and college ball when it comes to the body. I want to make sure my body is ready.”
UPCOMING SEASON EXPECTATIONS
Last season at Pulaski Southwestern, Danny Butt averaged 12 ppg, 8 rbs, 7 assists, and 3 steals. This season, Danny spoke more about team expectations and goals. “We are working toward making the Sweet 16 state tournament. We are deep and I think this summer really allowed us to learn how to play together as a team.” Individually, Danny stated he would like to be more of a leader and along the way catch the eye of more college coaches.
RECRUITING SUMMARY
Danny carries a host of colleges interested in acquiring his services. Schools that are keeping up with him the most are Samford, Furman, Ball State, Miami (OH), and Wright State. He stated that Samford is recruiting him the hardest at the moment.
