Continue ReadingHopkinsville wing CJ Henegan has picked up a couple Division II offers since we last spoke with him in the spring.
And though he was once seeing some Division I interest, the 6-foot-3 senior says he’s just fine with the D2 future that could be in store for him.
“I’ve got a lot of newer recruitment. I have two offers so far from Division II colleges, Embry-Riddle and Florida Tech. And then I have some interest from some small D1s like Samford and USC-Upstate. And I’ve also got interest from Clayton State which is also a D2 and then Centre College,” said Henegan.
“I really don’t know at this point what other offers might materialize. Florida Tech and Embry-Riddle are really good D2 schools, and I wouldn’t really mind playing D2 because I want to go where I fit. I’m not so caught up in D1, I just want to go somewhere where I can ball and get a good education, and where I’m wanted and needed.”
A versatile threat, especially at the high school ranks, Henegan says his guard skills are what he’s been sharpening of late.
”I’ve been working on my ball-handling and I’ve gotten a little more comfortable with that. And I’ve been working on consistency with my shot,” said Henegan.
“I’ve been called a position-less player, and with my high school team I can play the one through the five. But at the college level I think I’ll play the two.”
After what he calls a disappointing 17U season with Hoop Dreams…
“My summer didn’t really go as expected, it went OK, but I didn’t play my best.”
Henegan is eager to get out and run with his Tigers squad.
“This year as a senior I need to help and get my teammates involved, and just show the younger guys the ropes,” he said.
“I’m really expecting us to make some noise this year, and I’m expecting to have a heck of a year too.”
