Trevon SpencerTrevon Spencer hails from Columbia HS located deep in Tyrell County, NC. Much credit to Tre Cordon of HoopFarm Mixtapes for informing me find out about Trevon. Columbia HS is a very small 1A school which last reported a total enrollment of 162 students. However, Spencer has big talent and tons of athleticism to go along with it. As a sophomore, he showed tons of promise on the junior varsity team and had an auspicious beginning in his first varsity stint as well.
Trevon Spencer is a 6’4” tall wing that has elite run and jump athleticism. He jumps out of the gym. A nightmare for defenders once he gets a full head of steam towards the basket. His jump-shot is solid and he has a developing handle. He’s wired to score the basketball. It will be interesting to see if he he’ll consistently win his match-ups on the wing in conference play once teams begin keying in on him defensively.
Spencer is a year young for his class, so it’s good to keep a mental note of the fact. He has the potential to develop into a do it all type of player on both ends of the floor due to his height, length, athletic ability and youth. Defensively, he gets a ton of deflections and steals just from being active. He possesses so much potential on the defensive end that it’s downright scary to think about long term.
Make no mistakes about it. Spencer without a doubt is a college level prospect. A year young for his class, he has plenty of time and room to grow as a player. He has active hands on defense, extremely long arms, high-level athletic ability and work ethic. Key things to improve on are those such as his body. He’s very slender and could use some added muscle on his frame to handle the physicality of bigger guards/wings. He also could stand to keep improving on his ball-handling ability, opening up the door to create more for himself and others. However, colleges should start keying in now. If he puts all the pieces together and sharpens up his weaknesses, he could go far at the next level when it’s all said and done.
Also again, much credit to Tre Cordon of HoopFarm Mixtapes for his insight in helping me find out about Trevon Spencer and a slew of others. He does great work finding and filming under the radar prospects in Eastern North Carolina. Be sure to check out his YouTube Channel.
