Liam Caswell
Liam Caswell is a 6’3″ point guard prospect competing for Ocracoke High School located on Ocracoke Island in NC. As a 5’10” sophomore, Caswell flew under the radar averaging 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for a surprising 15-11 Ocracoke basketball team. Fast forward to now, Liam has shot up several inches and now stands 6’3”, while retaining the core of skills that enabled him to be such an important player as a sophomore.
As stated before, Liam has sprouted from 5’10” up to 6’3” inches tall. He’s also added some athletic flair to his already very solid game, getting out in transition and into the paint for floaters. He’s already an above average rebounding guard due to good leaping ability, fundamentals and timing, so the added height is a plus. Also already was an above average passer. Passes well out of the pick and roll, gives excellent post feeds and throws great lobs.
I wouldn’t be shocked if he flirted with several triple double this season. He’s fast with the ball, has an array of hesitation moves, uses a quick right to left crossover and has an efficient mid-range game. He didn’t attempt that many 3’s as a sophomore, so it will be interesting to see if that will change. Also, despite being such a gifted passer, at times he tries to zip tough passes into small spots, leading to unforced turnovers. However, the tools are there for him to become a very productive player at the next level in time. Only a junior.
Due to the graduation of his older brother Evin Caswell (2016 Coastal 10 1A Player of the Year), Liam will likely be counted on to provide more scoring opportunities for his teammates and for himself. As of now, D2 and some D3 schools definitely should check in and keep tabs on him. Should Ocracoke decide to completely hand him the reigns and run an up-tempo offense, there is no telling what he may do when it’s all said and done. Definite sleeper prospect.
