Most recently known for producing prospects such as Brandon Ingram (Lakers) and Reggie Bullock (Pistons), they have a storied history of producing college level talent, despite being a relatively small city compared to most. I recently took a visit to check out what they had going on in their open gym and to the surprise of no-one, was able to check out some legitimate prospects.
2018: Taji Moore stood out in his ability to lead, attack, get to the rim and knock down 3 pointers. As a sophomore the 6’0” point guard showed flashes, having some really good games here and there but couldn’t quite stay consistent with 10 seniors on the roster all competing for time. He appears ready to take on the challenge of being a full time starter. Guard was very active all afternoon long and gives it 100% every time he touches the court. Also a great student in the classroom.
2019: Damian Dunn at 6’5”showed the versatility that has enabled him to earn several Division 1 offers early on as a sophomore. At the high school level and possibly beyond, he can play 1-3 and be extremely effective at each spot. He made it an issue to not settle for jump-shots, attacking the rim and pulling up for shots off the glass over smaller defenders. Defensively he showed quick hands and used his length to frustrate ball-handlers.
2020: Chance Minott, a left handed 5’8” freshman showed really strong leadership abilities, made some good plays in transition and knocked down several contested shots. The lefty has a shifty handle that keeps defenders at a distance and has a quick change of pace. Unclear whether he’ll be a varsity or junior varsity participant, but he doesn’t look out of place. Interesting young point guard with long arms for his size. Could be due for a growth spurt.
2018: Tracy Whitfield, a 5’8” junior guard is extremely quick and crafty. Really gets after it defensively and pushes the pace. Showed a tight handle, got into the paint and provided everything you would want to see out of an undersized point guard. Potential is there and could be on the verge of having an impact junior season.
2017: Daimian Burnette can really shoot the ball. Was knocking down jump-shots all over. At 6’3” with good size, he showed a surprisingly ability to handle the ball, orchestrating fast-breaks, getting to the rim and finding open men as well. Should he shed a couple more pounds, he’ll be an intriguing prospect for jucos.
*Key players 6’7” Dericko Williams (2019), 6’4” Reginald Clark (2018) and 6’5” Gage Pearsall (2018) weren’t available due to football practice.
