5th REGION
State Contender: North Hardin (17th District)
North Hardin has the talent and experience to be an absolute force in the 5th region this year. Led by 6’5 senior G Tony Jackson, the Trojans also return G Gavin Root who had a great summer. Add transfer 6’8 transfer Trace Young to the mix as well. Young ranks among the best in the state with Jackson. It’ll be a race to the finish but our bet is on North Hardin to be competing in the state tournament. North Hardin finished the 205-2017 season at 26-8.
NEXT FOUR:
Bardstown – Can Bardstown get back to the state tournament after a two year absence? Honestly, they have just as good of a chance than anyone else at representing the 5th region. Coach James Brewer returns seniors Kel Livers, Santrel Farmer, and TraJan Walls. Those three may represent the deepest back-court in the region. Bardstown finished 26-8 last year.
John Hardin – Mickey Pearson is a stud. Able to score from all over the floor, Pearson plays more like a seasoned vet rather than his status a junior would suggest. John Hardin also returns Devonte Guillory, a 6’2 senior guard with range who has caught the eyes of many during the summer. John Hardin finished 17-12 last season.
Taylor County – Just because Taylor County lost head coach Richard Gatewood, who took another coaching job out of state, don’t count out the new man in charge. Maze Stallworth, a former Morehead State standout, comes to Taylor County from Casey County High School where he was starting to build a region contender. Taylor returns senior forward Dylan Gaines who averaged 11.5 ppg and 6 rebounds. They also return senior Ezra Oliver, a start on both Taylor County teams who reached the state tournament the previous two seasons.
Adair County – Adair returns senior forward Chance Melton, who has the ability to score inside and out. Adair finished 21-8 last season under new coach Deron Breeze and will look to improve as the return four starters overall. Corey Melton also returns averaging nearly 20 ppg last season. Three returning starters all averaged double-digit scoring when you throw Cameron Lasely in there as well. Lasely averaged 17 ppg last season.
