Hurd has lots of potential especially if he adds a few inches in height over the next couple of years. Denver visited Booker T. Washington to see Jaycson Bereal in the 2018 Class (who they have offered), but ended up blown away by Hurd’s talents in the post.
Hurd will not forget the feeling of his first Division I offer.
“It’s been an amazing feeling,” said Hurd. “I couldn’t stop smiling. I felt like practices have been paying off. I’m so grateful for everything God is putting in place.”
The visit from Denver to Booker T. Washington was the first time Hurd had any contact with Denver. Although, Denver has been following Hurd since early in the spring. Hurd did not know much about Denver before the offer, but has done some research about the school since the offer was put in place.
“The initial visit is the only contact that I’ve had with them thus far,” said Hurd. “The state itself sounds pretty cool. I’ve done some research on the school to checkout the academic opportunity and athletic history.”
This summer Hurd took his talents to another level in the post. He stands at 6’5 in the paint at the four spot. The Under Armour team, Oklahoma Run PWP was Hurd’s grassroots team. He had the chance to travel the country and match up against some of the best players around.
“I had the best summer,” said Hurd. “I was afforded many opportunities to go up against some of the best players in the nation, in my class. I’ve had the best coaching and mentor on the planet. I’ve had a lot of exposure and it’s led to the beginning of all these opportunities.”
The biggest thing Hurd is working on is becoming more of player that can play on the wing at times. If Hurd does not grow anymore he will have to become more of a player on the perimeter. With that said Hurd’s ability to rebound makes him a player that will always have a presence in the paint. Hurd has high goals for himself on and off the court over the next three years of his high school career.
“I am working on being more explosive, dribbling technique, being affective on both ends of the court, conditioning and becoming an all around player,” said Hurd. “I’m also working on academics to make sure I am meeting above standards for what is required of potential collegiate athletes.”
Hurd is an athlete that is on top of his goals on and off the court. The high IQ of Hurd shows up on the court. He makes the smart plays more times than not with his opportunities in the paint. This might be the first time you have heard about Hurd, but it certainly won’t be the last.
“Next year, I plan on taking the ACT as many times as I can,” said Hurd. “I want to start developing my game range outside of just being a post player. I’ve set goals to become a top player out of Oklahoma, to follow in the legacies that Booker T. produces.”
