Garcia had a breakout summer on the Under Armour circuit. The 6’4 wing enjoyed his time with PWP and the competition. “It was fun and exposed me to a lot of schools,” Garcia said. “I enjoyed traveling to many places across the nation while playing with and against the top players in the country.”
Garcia can compete on the Under Armour circuit because he brings quality size for a wing and has a great jumper from beyond the arc and he has a mid-range game.
Standing at 6’4, he is able to get his shot off with ease and he has a great basketball IQ to know how to get open off screens.
Garcia takes pride in the fact that he has intangibles that benefit himself but most importantly his team. “My three biggest strengths would probably be my knowledge of the game and the ability to coordinate it to my teammates,” Garcia said. “My leadership skills on and off the court influence the younger and older players and I feel like I am one of the best shooters in the state.”
Shooting is the most enjoyable part of basketball but there is a lot of work that has to be put in to get the right to shoot in games. Garcia understands the work ethic that is required to be a great shooter. “What I enjoy most about shooting is the feeling of all the time and effort I’ve put in to this game is finally paying off when the ball goes through the net,” Garcia said.
Garcia understands he needs to improve his ball handling and his athleticism. Improvement in these areas could make him a nightmare for a perimeter defender.
Garcia is the son of legendary and current Tulsa Union Head Basketball Coach Rudy Garcia. The Redskins have the best front court in the state including Garcia and two Division I big men in Adrian Rodriguez and Ethan Chargois.
Garcia has taken full advantage of playing with such talent around him. “It has taught me many different ways to finish around the rim while they try to block it,” Garcia said. “They have taught me many lessons to be used in the future.”
Garcia has heard from UMKC and Air Force so far but with a big junior year it will manifest into more interests from coaches.
The 2018 wing has a lot of potential and already has a translatable skill with his shooting ability. Garcia is projected to be a small D1 wing.
