“It’s been an exciting process so far and I’ve enjoyed it,” said Barger. “Many different schools have reached out to my coaches and trainer and its been fun but I’m really looking forward to the season starting.”
Barger had a solid grassroots campaign with the Oklahoma Wolfpack, but at the high school ranks he is on the move. 2016 Class 5A State Runner-up Tulsa Memorial will be Bargers new home for the upcoming season. Many expectations surround the Chargers program year in and year out. Barger says he is enjoying his new home.
“I feel like I’ve handled the transition well,” said Barger. “I got aquatinted with the guys and coaches quick. They definitely welcomed me and gave me a home feeling. I’m looking forward to competing on a bigger stage against better competition. All we talk about is winning state. I definitely want this year to be a statement year for myself but also for Memorial basketball.”
Barger can play both guard positions but is best suited to run the point. One thing that has always stood out about Barger is his leadership and basketball IQ. He is constantly directing traffic and putting his team in position to run an offense efficiently. Barger can attack the bucket in the open floor and score in bunches.
Several Division I programs have reached out to Barger, his trainers, and coaching staff. Barger says relationships will be key in how he decides his collegiate fate.
“The relationship the head coach and the coaching staff has with me and also my family will important,” said Barger. “I wanna be able to talk to my coaches about life as well not just basketball. How the coach lets his players play and how much of an impact I will make at the school. Also just the vibe I get with the coaches and players after my visits. And of course the education because academics is a big deal to me.”
Although Barger put up great numbers throughout his time with the Green Country Homeschool Defenders, he will now face a more competitive crowd in the Green Country conference. This conference features some of the best guards in the state such as Elijah Landrum, R.J. Fuqua and Burke Putnam. Time will tell just the type of player Barger can be.
