The junior guard from Fort Gibson averaged 8.5 points per game on a talented offensive unit last year. He is currently ranked the 39th best player in the state from the 2018 class.
Calavan is small in stature but makes up for it with a high skill level and feel for different offensive situations.
Calavan’s skill level is something that he leans on heavily to play at a high level for the Tigers. “I think my biggest strengths are ball handling, basketball IQ, and hustle,” Calavan said.
He gives his teams versatility offensively because he can be your primary ball handler in the ball screen situations or he can space the defense while spotting up. He plays at a controlled pace and never runs into the lane without a plan.
That comfortability in pick and roll situations is what makes him an attractive prospect for coaches. “I love the pick and roll because it gives you plenty of options to either score yourself or make a play for others,” Calavan said. “It also can create mismatches.”
His weaknesses are his strength and stature on defense but he has time to improve those areas.
He is excited for his junior season to get started. “I can’t wait to play ball with my best friends and hopefully hold up that gold ball at the end of the season,” Calavan said.
So far he has been contacted by UCO, OBU, and others including Air Force.
Fort Gibson has always been a place for college coaches to pick up a steal that end up contributing to a program.
Calavan will be a great fit for a program that has an established offensive system that allows him to handle the ball and make decisions.
