“I went to one camp at Charleston University. Then I’ve just been taking these unofficial visits to school, see how I’m liking it. Just kind of get the feeling for the school,” Kuhlman said.
In total, Kuhlman has received offers from eight colleges, all outside of Ohio: Evansville, Charleston, Air Force, Maine, Christian Brothers, Fairmont State, and St. Francis (PA).
“I really like St. Francis, I believe I’m going to take an official visit out there some time in September. And I think I’m interested in Evansville … those seem to be my top two right now,” Kuhlman said.
Via text, Kuhlman wrote that he would prefer to make a college decision before the high school season begins, but has no problem waiting later.
“I’m just looking for a place where I’ll fit in. Feel comfortable. Feel like a great group of guys, respectable coaches … Academics are huge. Playing a key role on where I go to college,” Kuhlman said.
Kuhlman said most colleges are recruiting him as a stretch four.
“I believe I can guard pretty much 1 through 5. I’m not the quickest dude who’s going to be guarding the ball, but I believe I can do it. And same with the big men down-low.”
Kuhlman, a 3.98 GPA student-athlete, will potentially major in exercise science or sports management, but is undecided at the moment. His senior year schedule reflects a kid who takes the classroom seriously.

“I’d say my game is more on the mental side of basketball. Out-thinking my opponent, because I’m not the most athletic dude. So it’s more about passing, more about making the open shot, making the smart extra read, a smart pass, and playing solid defense,” Kuhlman said, when asked to describe his game.
As a junior, Kuhlman averaged 12.2 points on 51.8% shooting and 45.3% from three-point range. His off-ball activity packaged alongside a 6’7” frame is simply too much for high school defenses to handle. And once open, he will hit jumpers with consistency. Overall, anticipation is key to his game.
Kuhlman’s self-awareness carries over to knowing where improvement need to happen.
“I’m looking to put the ball on the ground more, and get to the rim … Quick first-step,” Kuhlman said.
Furthering his off-the-dribble game would likely open up passing lanes and shooting opportunities against quicker athletes in college.
Kuhlman, one of the many rising prospects from Ohio Unity 17U, is likely to have quite an impact for a college program.
Kuhlman is currently leaning towards St. Francis (PA) or Evansville. He took his unofficial to Evansville last week. A visit to St. Francis (PA) is will take place in the coming months. Kuhlman will also visit Air Force in September.
