Franklin County’s 6-foot-2 shooting guard Kyle Stivers is emerging as one of Frankfort’s top young guards.
With some decent size and an ability to play both both guard spots, he considers himself to be a versatile threat for the Flyers.
“I feel like driving and finishing at the rim are strengths of mine. I rebound pretty good as a shooting guard, and I can push the ball up the floor and control tempo of the game just like a point guard could,” said Stivers.
“I want to work a little more on my shooting. My mid-range game is there, but I need to continue and work on my outside shot.”
After recently wrapping up his 15U season — during which he played with Kentucky Basketball Club and Pocket City — Stivers says he feels good about how things went.
“I thought I did really good. I just tried to lead my team and do as much as I could while getting my teammates involved,” he said. “I really improved on staying positive and not getting down on myself. And I thought my 15U season overall went really well.”
Last season as freshman Stivers averaged 6.3 points and 2 rebounds per game, and earned all district honors in the process.
“Last year as a freshman I was a sixth-man, my role was basically to come in and rebound, play defense and run the floor. And my coach encouraged me to shoot the 3 if it was open,” said Stivers.
“For sophomore season I feel like I’ll have a bigger role. I’ll have to score the ball a little more, and still rebound and play defense. And hopefully we can get another district championship.”
