Burbage was a contributor with the Defenders’ varsity last season as a freshman, and will look to increase his role this season. He says his vision and court awareness is what he’ll bring to the table.
“On the floor I like to penetrate and get my shot right. I don’t like being in a rush, when I’m in a rush it messes my game up and I can’t see the floor right,” said Burbage. “I feel like I’m best when running the floor on the fast-break. And my vision is a strength, I can always find the open man.”
This offseason Burbage was running with the Kentucky Travelers’ 15U squad.
“With that team I was starting at shooting guard, and I would bring the ball up the court sometimes. I was happy with how I played.”
Now he will focus on his sophomore football season, and he mentioned he’ll be the starting quarterback. But he says he doesn’t have a preference yet between hoops and football.
“I’m just playing it out to see how it goes,” said Burbage. “Because I like both sports.”
Immediately after football, his focus will shift to the hardwood once again.
“It’s going to be completely different than it was last year,” said Burbage. “Last year I started JV and played a little bit of varsity. And this year I’ll have to take a bigger role and step-up and hopefully start at shooting guard or point guard — wherever the coach needs me to be at.”
