The McCreary Central combo guard switched from Team Vision to the Louisville Lightning 16U travel team this summer. I caught up with him at the Super Showcase in Orlando two weeks ago. It was his second tournament with head coach Kelsey Combs and the Lightning.
“I’ve been playing against more high-level competition which has made me become more aggressive. That’s my biggest focus, just being more aggressive and knocking down shots.”
At 6’4″, 180 lbs., Jones is aiming to get up to the 200-pound mark. He’s currently working hard in the weight room and eating as much protein as he can to add muscle.
Entering his third year on the varsity basketball team, he doubles as the starting quarterback on the football team as well.
Jones is ranked No. 45 overall in the Prep Hoops Kentucky 2018 rankings.
He called himself someone who plays hard and brings a slasher’s mentality to the game.
Although Jones doesn’t have an offer yet, Austin Peay and Newberry College are showing interest in him. He attended an elite camp at Austin Peay in June and plans to go up there again to catch a football game this fall.
Jones has a strong basketball IQ and is the true definition of a team player. He dishes the ball out just as well as he shoots. Once he gets better as an attacker, like he alluded to, then the sky is the limit for him. Jones will get an opportunity somewhere whether that comes from a Division-II or Division-III program.
