Basketball has taken Collins on quite the journey. Growing up Collins attended school in the Oklahoma City area. In high school he transferred to homeschool program, the Oklahoma City Storm.
The Storm gave Collins the opportunity to advance his skill set at Point Guard. Homeschooling with the OKC Storm also presented the chance for Collins to advance in the classroom to the next level.
Collins thrived on and off the court with the OKC Storm making his name known. The best way to describe Collins was a scoring machine. If the Storm needed a bucket Collins was their go to guy. Over his senior year Collins averaged 28.3 points per game.
He was honored as The Oklahoman’s Super 5 Player of the Year. Not to mention Collins lead the OKC Storm to two National Homeschool Championships. Both years Collins was named the National Homeschool Player of the Year.
He went on to graduate and took a basketball scholarship at TCU. Over the past two years Collins has been working hard to gain minutes and the coaching staffs trust.
Last year Collins broke out towards the end of the season having a great showing at the BIG 12 Tournament. After the season ended the coaching staff changed with the hiring of Jamie Dixon. Collins felt after his great sophomore year it was time to take his game pro.
Collins learned a lot and elevated his game in his time at TCU.
“The biggest things I learned at TCU was no matter what never give up,” Collins said. “Stay hungry and committed to the grind because it will pay off.”
Collins does not know what pro route he will take just yet. He is headed to several tryouts over the coming months. The D-league and overseas are both options for Collins.
The biggest difference for Collins from being at TCU to turning pro is not having the coaching staff around. Everything is now on his shoulders.
“The biggest difference from the college life to the pro life is being on your own,” Collins said. “You have to understand that it’s a process.”
Collins is a success story out of the Oklahoma City area under OKC Storm Head Coach Kurt Talbot. Over his basketball career Collins has worked extremely hard to get to the point he is at today.
