With his senior year approaching and no offers, Adrian Rodriguez took advantage of his chance to prove himself on the Under Armour Circuit. There were many questions surrounding Rodriguez’s game. Could he rebound at 6’6? Would he struggle to guard taller opponents? How would he find open shots against 7′ defenders?
Rodriguez answered each of those questions with great play night in and night out for Oklahoma Run PWP. At 6’6 Rodriguez used his quickness to beat his opponent on the boards, find open shots in the paint and to play harassing defense. Rodriguez instantly picked up Division I interest following the first live period in New York City. By the time the second live weekend rolled around Rodriguez picked up a couple offers. Air Force and Houston Baptist were two of the first schools to extend offers to the stretch four.
As each game followed programs interest for Rodriguez grew. The interest continues to grow, but it is not just because of his quickness and ability to shoot the mid-range jumper. College coaches love the passion, fire and toughness Rodriguez brings to the floor every game.
At 6’6 Rodriguez finished forth overall in the Under Armour Association in rebounding. As you scan the top ten Rodriguez was easily the shortest player within the top 20 in rebounding. The effort Rodriguez gives to rebound non-stop on both ends of the floor for Oklahoma Run PWP caught coaches eyes.
Rodriguez also had several breakout scoring performances catching fire from mid-range and at times the three-point stripe. He has improved his jump shot immensely over the past year making him more of an offensive threat. Opponents struggled to keep Rodriguez off the offensive glass. Each game Rodriguez would get one or two tip in’s.
Rodriguez went from being recruited heavily by no Division I programs to being sought after by multiple programs after this summer. The Under Armour Circuit was an opportunity for Rodriguez to shine. He took the chance by the horns and thrived.
Rodriguez is now being recruited by Missouri State, Air Force, Houston Baptist, UTSA, UMKC, Navy, Lamar and South Dakota State (Schools in BOLD have offered Rodriguez). As of now Rodriguez has two official visits set up. Missouri State Sep 1st-3rd will be Rodriguez’s first official visit then he will head to UTSA Sep 16th-18th.
Rodriguez has a bright future on the floor with his work ethic on and off the court. He is the type of player every coach loves to coach. Prep Hoops Oklahoma Most Improved Player in the 2017 Class this summer goes to Adrian Rodriguez.
