Former Athletes First and current Los Angeles Clipper power forward Blake Griffin announced his affiliation with the team in early March. Though that wasn’t the only change within the ball club. New faces Mason Harrell, and Omar Boone came along board to compete with the 17U ball club. Combine those two with longtime Athlete’s First/ Team Griffin member Caleb Nero and here lies one of the more dangerous back courts in the business.
The trio all provide their own unique skill set. Harrell is most suited to play point guard. Although undersized, he has unnatural play making ability that makes him special. He shows a tight handle and is extremely tough to stay in front of on the perimeter. The foul line jumpers and in the lane floaters are a few of the highlights within Harrell’s game.
Nero is a talented player and may be the most versatile out of the group. He could play either guard position with his size and ability to create his own shot, Nero is best suited to play the two guard. He can fill up the scores sheet in bunches and in a number of different ways. Nero is a solid threat from beyond the arc but is most effective when attacking the rim as a slashing guard.
Boone has developed into quite the player with Team Griffin. He has improved nearly every aspect of his offensive game and has proved he can be a scoring point guard at the next level. Boone is extremely quick in the open floor. His speed to the rim is what allows him to get in the lane and make plays. Recently, Boone has also shown he can knock down the three ball with consistency as well.
The three combined for 55 points in a win a over We All Can Go. Harrell(18), Nero(20), Boone(17), all have the talent to play at the Division I level. Time will tell just how far these talented guards can go.
