PG Donald Carey (Frederick Douglass ’17)
Donald Carey has great size and length for the point guard position. He handles well, and has a decent shot off the dribble and from the catch. He demonstrates a great feel for the game and plays with a high motor.
SG Jake Kuhn (Goretti ’17)
The passion and energy Jake Kuhn plays with is just fantastic. He came off the bench and provided a huge boost for The District in their slug fest with Team Takeover EYBL. The athletic 6-foot-6 wing hit shots from the perimeter, rebounded, and went hard to the rim. He threw down a highlight-worthy two handed dunk over a defender in transition.
PG Denmark Slay (St. Stephens St. Agnes ’17)
Denmark Slay was a spark plug for The District in their battle with Team Takeover EYBL this morning. He once again showed his toughness and big time shot making ability. With over a dozen college coaches watching the contest, Slay was arguably the top performer.
SG Miles Latimer (Paul VI ’18)
As he continues to grow into his body, Miles Latimer is beginning to show off more athleticism. The sharpshooting 6-foot-4 guard was aggressive off the bounce and showed some craftiness in the lane. He also did a nice job finding others for open looks when he drove.
PF Vince Lee (Paul VI ’18)
Relentless. That’s the first thing that comes to mind when reflecting upon Vince Lee‘s performance on Saturday. The strong and quick power forward for Team Takeover Orange was a flat out work horse on the glass. Lee did a good job seeking and finishing through contact around the rim, and showed off some nice back-to-the basket post moves.
F Ricky Lindo (Wilson ’18)
Ricky Lindo was one of the most intriguing players we saw all day. The long-limbed 6-foot-6 wing did a bit of everything. He hit two threes, handled the ball in transition, and showed off his athleticism with a dunk. The crazy part is that he doesn’t even turn 16 until late September.
PG Malik McKinney (Indian Creek ’18)
An athletic guard who rebounds well and can push the pace, Malik McKinney played with a ton of energy for The District 16U squad today. He used his quick first step to keep defenders off balance, and often looked to set up teammates when he got in the lane.
PG Wynston Tabbs (Team Melo ’18)
A versatile, skilled guard who can score and create for others, Wynston Tabbs was a two-way standout for Team Melo today. Tabbs anticipates well defensively, and does a nice job pushing the ball in transition for easy points. He showed off his athleticism on the break with a series of highlight-worthy dunks.
SG Matthew Urbach (W.T. Woodson ’18)
Matthew Urbach once again showed the again showed off his ability to consistently hit the three ball with range with Team Takeover Orange today. The 6-foot-4 off guard was crafty around the rim, and did a great job mixing it up off the bounce. Urbach should thrive in a major role with Woodson this year.
PG Anthony Harris Jr. (Paul VI ’19)
As per usual, Anthony Harris Jr. showed off a consistent and tireless motor today. A skilled, big, athletic guard who can create his shot off the dribble, Harris demonstrated the ability to consistently break down his man off the bounce and make plays for his team. As we mentioned, the effort was there, especially on the defensive end. Harris picked up full court and constantly turned opposing ball handlers in the back court.
PF E.J. Jarvis (Maret ’19)
He’s still just scratching the surface of his potential, but boy did E.J. Jarvis show signs on Saturday. Perhaps the biggest takeaway from the athletic big man’s performance today? How hard he plays on each possession. On more than one occasion, Jarvis was seen hustling up and down the floor and making impact plays at the rim. Jarvis showcased a soft touch and a nice blend of skill to go along with high level athleticism and motor.
PG Xavier Johnson (Episcopal ’19)
Xavier Johnson demonstrated his prolific touch from long range today. He cashed in on five threes on his way to 19 points in a win for Team Takeover Black in the night cap. Johnson is absolutely automatic with his feet set.
C Hunter Dickinson (DeMatha ’20)
The future will certainly be bright for DeMatha with Hunter Dickinson manning the middle for the next four years. He’s already near seven feet tall, but Dickinson is remarkably nimble and skilled. As he continues to grow into his body, Dickinson should only become more dominant.
SG Che Evans (Dulaney ’20)
Che Evans exhibited an exciting blend of size, skill and high level athleticism for Team Melo. The 6-foot-6 rising freshman showed good scoring prowess and the ability to consistently break down his defender off the dribble. Evans is also very long and agile, which makes him a solid defender.
SF Justin Lewis (Calvert Hall ’20)
An emerging name out of Baltimore, Justin Lewis has hauled in offers from St. John’s and Georgia Tech prior to even stepping out onto a high school court. The hype with the 6-foot-8 forward is very real though. Lewis is very long, athletic, and skilled. He should make an immediate impact as a freshman, and become dominant in the BCL with Calvert Hall.
