In the summer, most kids are sitting around playing NBA 2K16 and stuck on snapchat but Turner is using this time to get ready for the 2016 Olympic trials. Turner is a phenomenal high jumper and he recently broke his own state record this past May with a jump of 7 feet 4 ½ inches according to The Daily Oklahoman.
Due to the strenuous training that is required for the Olympic trials, Turner is not able to play summer ball but he is well aware of what he can bring to a team on the hardwood.
“I think I play great defense and my athleticism gives me an advantage on offense,” Turner said. “I think I bring energy to my team and leadership.”
Turner is excited to get back on the floor and he recognizes what his weaknesses are. “My 3 point shot and getting to the basket easier with my left hand.”
Yukon boys’ basketball is blessed with a talented backcourt of Turner and Jordan Williams as they are one of the best duos in the state and they have a great chemistry. “We know how each other play so we know the other one is going to do on the first dribble,” Turner said. He said him and Williams have played together since they were 5 years old.
Yukon has the potential to make the state tournament with their dynamic guard tandem plus the addition of 2017 big man Cameron Martin. “I think that it will help a lot,” Turner said.
Turner is gaining momentum in recruiting because of track but he is interested in playing basketball at the next level as well. “I’ll probably play basketball and jump in track,” Turner said. “From track I had had schools ask me questions about basketball.”
As Turner participates in the Olympic trials this summer, he will be overlooked as the high school season starts but he has what it takes to play at the next level. His elite athleticism allows him to be a disruptive defender and is a highlight waiting to happen attacking the rim. Turner is a good prospect for Division II’s to take a look at especially if they have a strong track program.
