“It is really exciting,” Savage said. “Knowing that the work your putting in is starting to pay off feels really good.”
Savage is a Point Guard standing at 6’4 nearing towards 6’5. He is long very smart on the court as he is a coaches son. Savage may very well end up a Division I recruit at the end of the day with his talent to run the show at the Point.
Savage knows he has time to improve his skills, but is not wasting any time. He wants to continue to strive to improve each day. Last season Sand Springs had an early exit in the playoffs. Savage has not forgotten the loss.
“My goals for next year are to keep improving and getting better at everything,” Savage said. “To try to help Sand Springs make a run in the State Tournament.”
Sand Springs and Savage have their work cut out for them next season. This summer Savage has impressed coaches and scouts playing up in the 17U division with Oklahoma Run PWP Select. He feels this summer has helped him progress as a player.
“It has taught me I still have things to work on and improve upon,” Savage said. “Always play hard because you never know who is watching.”
Savage has many of the physical traits coaches look for in a Point Guard. But he also has a sharp mind with a willingness to share the ball. He can score the ball very well for the Point and has improved this summer at being effective without the ball in his hands at the two.
Savage will be a coveted combo guard in the Oklahoma 2018 Class. Oklahoma Baptist has made him a priority early on. It will be interesting to see how the recruitment of Savage plays out over the next two years.
