Continue Reading2018 Cooper Guard Adam Kunkel is coming off a solid Spring AAU season and a breakout sophomore season in which he averaged 15.3 points and 4 rebounds per game for the Jaguars. At 6’2-1/2″ Kunkel is slightly undersized as a two guard, but he makes up for it with his skill set. He’s a good athlete, can score off the bounce and shoot the ball as well. He’s solid defensively and has a good basketball IQ. While he’s not going to blow people away at first glance, his entire game speaks for itself.
He picked up his first offer last week as Central Arkansas pulled the trigger before the first live period of July was set to begin. Wright State, Samford, Eastern Kentucky, Northern Kentucky and Dayton are also showing interest. He visited Northern Kentucky in June and said Samford and Wright State are recruiting him the hardest along with Central Arkansas. He would like to see Xavier show some interest as well, but he’s happy with all the schools recruiting him now.
Adam isn’t content with where he’s at right now though and mentioned wanting to fall in love with the weight room. He wants to get stronger before his junior season and wants to help Cooper win the 9th region and get to the state tournament, and win that as well.
Speaking of Cooper the Jaguars should be one of, if not the favorite, in the 9th region. Kunkel teams up with Sean McNeil to form one of the best 1-2 punches in Kentucky. They have a solid supporting class and one of the best coaches, Tim Sullivan, in Kentucky as well. Cooper should be a top 25 team all season and it’ll be fun to see them battle in an always difficult 9th region. Kunkel will need to step his game up another level for that to happen.
