“I’m a good driver and elevator,” Coomer said. “I can shoot and score over defenders. I’m very lengthy. I rebound well and am very versatile. More than anything, I alter shots and drive to the basket.”
Coomer played a solid role in the Trojans’ success last season. The sophomore was a starter and played alongside his brother (Wade Coomer) in one of the most historic season in BCHS history.
“We had one of the best seasons in Barren County history, and was one of the best teams we have had come through the school,” Coomer told me. “Not many people get to play and start on a team with their siblings, and actually be a winning team. He’s a guy I can look up to and make my game after, and was definitely a memorable season with him last year.”
This season, the player says he wants to win and be successful.
“Team goals for this season are to get to the Region Championship,” Coomer stated. “Personal goals are to win District Player of the Year and to just be the leader of my team.”
Coomer played for the NKY Force on the AAU Circuit this summer. He says he played well.
“I averaged around 15 points and 6 boards per game,” Coomer said. “I broke my ankle at the beginning of the season and missed 3-4 tournaments.”
In the classroom at the high-school, Coomer says he is a good student.
“I have a 3.3 GPA and an 18 on the ACT,” Coomer noted.
Although he hasn’t received his first direct offer yet, Coomer says he has been shown interest from Samford, Centre College, Kent State and Illinois, and says more coaches and programs should start to reach out because he can score.
“I can score at all three levels, and have good athleticism and understand the game,” Coomer said.
