“I am a scorer,” James said. “I shoot 50% from the field, 44% from the 3, and 86% from the free throw line. I have just under 2300 points for my career. I have in excess of 1000 rebounds for my career. I have by listed by the KHSAA in the 2014-15 top scorers, 3-point field goals, rebounders and free throws, and in the top 3-point field goals in 2015-16.”
As James played for Mercer County High School last season, he helped guide the Titans to the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen at Rupp Arena. The player averaged 15.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest. This year with the Cardinals, James wants to do just about the same.
“After playing in the Sweet Sixteen this past year for Mercer County, my goal is to make it back to Rupp (Arena) again this year. I would also like to reach the 3,000 point mark for my career. I would also like to lead the state in scoring and 3-point field goals.”
James didn’t play for anyone this summer. He still worked on his game, though.
“I did not play AAU this summer,” James told me. “I decided to work on my game and continue workouts at home.”
Although he doesn’t have any offers yet, James says he has been shown interest from a handful of college programs. He says he has been requested film and been invited to numerous elite camps, and that more coaches should start to reach out because he is competitive.
“I have a high basketball IQ,” James stated. “I am competitive and I value my teammates and I believe team success outweighs individual accomplishments.”
In the classroom, the athlete is hard-worker.
“I have a 3.6 GPA,” James noted. “I value my education and work hard in class. I am enrolled in Honors and AP courses, as well as the Gifted and Talented Program for Mathematics.”
James is going to work hard in his final season as a high school player to receive his first offers.
