Norwalk Team Camp: Friday Standouts
2017 Kyle Nevitt, 6’4 SF, Perry
It was a rim-rattling one-hand slam that was his highlight. But what was most impressive was his skillful shooting. When he hoisted 3s, they were either going in, or missing narrowly. The athletic wing should average close to 20 points next season, and have efficient shooting numbers to pair.
2018 Rashon Ivory, 5’8 PG, Perry
We saw him play well last weekend in Lawrence, and that momentum has carried into this weekend. He certainly handles it well, and his vision is a strength too. He will set up a lot of wide-open looks for his teammates, as he excels at the drive-and-kick. There is a high ceiling for this one.
2018 Eric Milewsky, 5’9 PG, Urbandale
Last weekend in Lawrence he busted his two front teeth out, and I’m told was choking on his own blood. But he was back at it this weekend, with two fake teeth in, and played fearlessly still. Milewsky is a fiery competitor, who is scared of nothing; a hard-nosed point guard with athelticism and skill. He’s fun to watch.
2018 Spencer Touro, 5’10 G, Benton
Touro was certainly the surprise of the day; which considering we had lofty expectations coming in, is a bit of a surprise. He was great with the Mavericks this spring, that catapulted him up to No. 43 in the 2018 rankings. But he was simply sensational today. His shot is pure and precise. And he’s worked on his quickness and handle, and can now create his own looks. He’s a very dangerous guard at the 2A ranks.
2017 Jackson Helmers, 6′ G, Algona
Last season it was Landon Rash who emerged at the Norwalk Team Camp. And this season it’s Jackson Helmers. He was unconscious in the first half against Benton, pouring in 25 points; hitting from deep, from mid-range and at the hoop. He ended with a team-high 29 points.
2019 Colten Parkins, 6′ G, North Polk
He’s a sharpshooter with nice vision and great court awareness. A high basketball IQ cannot be taught, and that paired with his adeptness from deep make him a stock-riser in 2019.
2019 Tyreke Locure, 5’9 PG, Des Moines North
What more is there to say? He’s as sensational a point guard as there is in Iowa’s 2019 class, and is certainly a top-5 point guard in the state regardless of class. What he does cannot be taught, and Division I programs should be thinking about offering him.
2017 Tyler Eggert, 6′ G, Benton
He scored 20 points in a massive come-from-behind win over Algona. And his strength at guard is a perfect compliment to Touro’s finesse. Eggert is only 5-foot-11, but able to finish through contact and bang down low because of his good build. He can handle the ball a bit too, and excels at getting into the lane.
