Saturday, players showed out at Tulsa Team Camp as we scouted the talent throughout the day. Prep Hoops found several young players that had big days mixed in with many familiar faces.
Familiar Faces
Elijah Landrum 2017 Tulsa Central Point Guard
Landrum dribbled down the floor the first possession, crossed over, pulled up for three 35 feet from the basket and hit nothing but net. That was Landrum’s performance throughout the day as he scored the ball at a high level. Landrum shot the ball at a high volume level. It seems each time Landrum is on the floor he has to throw in a few highlight jams as well. He projects as a Division I player and holds several offers.
Caleb Huffman 2018 Broken Arrow Point Guard
God gifted Huffman with everything that you could want in a Point Guard. Huffman is 6’3 with great athleticism, physical build and speed. He has a beautiful jumper that comes off his hands looking like it is going to go in each time. He changes speed with the ball in his hands so easily. Huffman holds an offer from Tulsa, but will see many more before his recruitment is finished. Huffman projects as a Division I player.
Stefone Richardson 2017 Edison Point Guard
Richardson looked like his usual self with Edison on Saturday scoring the basketball at a high level. The thing that separates him from others is his ability to score in all three phases of the game off the bounce. Richardson is projected as a Division I player at the next level.
Ethan Chargois 2017 Union Power Forward
Chargois was dominant in the paint being aggressive around the rim. He handled the ball a lot even brining it up a couple of times. Chargois is still a little out of shape coming off his foot injury this spring, but it did not slow him down one bit. Chargois. An underrated part of Chargois’s game is his vision and ability to pass.
Adrian Rodriguez 2017 Union Power Forward
Rodriguez continues to impress each time I see him on the hardwood. He dominates the board despite being under sized in the paint. Standing at 6’6 Rodriguez uses his quickness to exploit the defense. He finishes well around the rim and on defense don’t be surprised when he sends the opponents shot out of bounds. Rodriguez is projected at the Division I level.
Mo Garcia 2018 Union Shooting Guard
Garcia is getting better and better each time out. The biggest thing that I can see improving is his confidence. As a spot up shooter Garcia is one of the best in the 2018 Oklahoma Class. He isn’t very athletic or quick, but uses his high IQ to beat defenders with angles and smart plays. Garcia is another coach on the floor, which is impressive considering his young age.
New Faces
Cameron Dennis 2019 Broken Arrow Point Guard
Dennis played very well in his time on the floor Saturday at the Point. Dennis stands at 6’ with good speed. He is a lefty with a smooth pull up jumper from mid-range. Dennis all showed good touch on his attempts from three-point land. Dennis got to the line many times with a strong drive to the hoop. He is a young and intriguing prospect to watch in the 2019 Oklahoma Class.
Kareem Thomas 2017 PC North Point Guard
Thomas is in the conversation for the best on ball defender in the 2017 Oklahoma Class. Thomas is tough as nails at the Point Guard spot. He wants to guard the opposing teams best guard. Thomas has improved his game on the offensive end turning into one of the main options for PC North. Thomas got hot from behind the arc on Saturday. Thomas is great at dribbling hard two times then elevating for a jumper off the bounce. Thomas projects as a Division II player at the next level. He has gone unnoticed for a long time, but that is quickly changing.
Tony Hall 2017 Broken Arrow Guard/Forward
Hall will be a Division II programs dream on the wing. He is long and athletic standing 6’5 1/2. He has a nice three-point shot, plays on the wing, handles the ball a little and plays tough defense using his length and speed. But what makes Hall special is hit ability to also defend and rebound well in the paint. Hall is a good scoring option that excels on the defensive end. He projects as a Division II prospect.
Blake Owens 2018 PC North Forward
Owens has moved from Piedmont to PC North and is making the transition seamlessly. He was a monster at the four blocking shot after shot in the paint. Owens could play at the 3 on the wing as he does for his AAU team or he can be a stretch four. When colleges look at him in the 2018 Class they will like his versatility.
Cole Surrett 2017 Jenks Forward
Surrett has gotten stronger and looks to have grown an inch or two as well. He was a man amongst boys on Saturday dominating the paint. Surrett showed some nice post moves around the basket. On defense he has the hops and height to make opponents adjust their shots. Surrett projects to the Division II level as a four. The biggest thing lacking in his game is a face up jumper from 15-20.
Jared Kukyendal 2017 Jenks Shooting Guard
Kukyendal has a nice outside jumper with great touch. He is not the most athletic on the floor, but brings everything that he has on both ends. Saturday he also displayed a solid drive to the basket finishing well at the cup. If you remember Hutch Peterson who was a Jenks a couple of years back he reminds me a lot of him. It will be interesting to see his progress over this year. Hey s projected as an NAIA D2 to Division III player.
Loddy Combss 2020 Edison Guard
Combs is a young talent to keep an eye on over the next few years. He did a little bit of everything for Edison playing inside and out. He was most impressive playing tough hard defense. Combs is very athletic flying around the court looking to make plays. On offense he did most of his work within 15 feet of the basket, but did knock down a couple of three-point shots. As athletic as he is with good height at a young age he is one to watch.
