“Lately I’ve heard from Western Kentucky, I’ve heard from Xavier, and I was invited on an unofficial to visit Kentucky. And then I’ve heard from a D2 school too,” said Free, who will be attending several elite camps this summer.
“Right now though (recruitment) is not really not a main priority. My main priority right now is that I want to keep my grades up, stay out of trouble, and make the right decision, the right moves, and develop as a young man.”
Free is confident his recruitment will ramp up during his upperclassmen years, and is focused on developing as a person and a player right now.
“That recruitment will all come my junior and senior year,” said the 6-foot-4 2019. “I just want to get better right now, and be a better person out in the community. I want everyone to just respect me, and make everybody happy on the court and off the court.”
Currently a shooting guard, Free says he’d like to continue to develop his ball-handling and become more of a combo-guard, and maybe completely transition to the one.
“I’m a really good shooter, that’s my go-to. If it’s late in the game I’m going to try and knock-down a shot. I’m a good slasher too, and I play aggressive on defense. What I want to do is continue to improve my ball-handling and maybe move over to the one,” said Free, who assessed his play with the Thorobreds.
“My role as a freshman last year was I would be there to knock-down shots, and I would get rebounds. I averaged about 10 points per game and 7 rebounds. And next year I’ll have a huge role compared to what I did as a freshman.”
For now, the up-and-comer is playing with Kentucky Basketball Club, and hopes to win as many games as he can with the guys this July, and hopefully generate some college attention for he and his teammates.
“Every single tournament I want to get to the gold bracket and play in the championship game,” said Free. “I want to make my teammates better. And if I can I want to get the most college interest, and just try and get my recruitment up a little bit.”
