Continue ReadingTrey Hopkins is quickly becoming a national recruit with the great summer he has had on the Under Armour Circuit. He recently visited two schools Oklahoma State and Nebraska.
Hopkins is averaging 11.6 points per game on 53% shooting from the floor. He has learned how to be a leader on the court this summer, which is very valuable for the future moving forward. On the wing Hopkins excels with the rock in his hands. He has improved at creating his own shot.
For a long time Hopkins has been able to do impressive dunks on the court, but it is one thing to do them in practice and another thing to do them in a game. Hopkins added the ability to go up and at any moment dunk on an opponent in the past year. It has elevated his game to another level because he now attacks the rim with more confidence.
Oklahoma State and Nebraska both impressed Hopkins on his visits. Oklahoma State was his first visit he took in early June.
“Oklahoma State has great tradition going to the Final Four in the past,” Hopkins said. “I liked the new coaching staff with Coach Underwood.”
Hopkins recruitment is just beginning as more Division I programs will continue to get involved. Oklahoma State has not offered Hopkins to this point.
In April, Hopkins picked up his first offer from Boise State that was quickly followed up by Nebraska and Tulsa. Before his offer from Nebraska Hopkins did not have much knowledge of the Huskers Basketball program.
“There was way more than I expected,” Hopkins said. “I was impressed with how much money they have invested in their athletes for success.”
Hopkins met Head Coach Tim Miles and the Nebraska staff for the first time and was blown away with the vision of the coaching staff.
“Coach Miles could be a coach I could live with in college,” Hopkins said. “He knows what he is doing. I feel like Nebraska’s basketball program is about to make a great run.”
Hopkins was surprised not only by Nebraska’s basketball program, but the city of Lincoln. Hopkins did not realize the size of the city of Lincoln.
“I saw a nice part of the city” Hopkins said. “It kind of reminded me of OKC everything in the main area.”
Hopkins plans to schedule an unofficial visit to Tulsa sometime before school starts. He will be playing with Oklahoma Run PWP in July looking to garner more national attention.
