The rising senior, who is running on the EYBL with Team Takeover this summer, was a standout this weekend at the BSN Summer League. He also visited two CAA schools this weekend.
Allen, who is a native of Upper Marlboro and now lives in Bowie, first started playing the game at a very young age.
“I’ve been playing since I could walk,” Allen recalled. “As soon as my dad saw me walking he put a ball in my hands and said go out there and play.”
A downhill, uptempo-type guard, Allen likes to push the ball immediately. Make or miss, he likes to get it out and go. The lefty is focusing on improving his right hand. He wants to eliminate the fact that defenders try to force him right because it’s a perceived weakness of his. Regarded as a knock-down three point shooter, Allen has recently improved his paint getting ability.
“I’m starting this year to attack the basket a lot more. Finishing around the rim. Finishing through contact. I think I’m getting a lot better than that,” Allen stated. “I’m stepping out my range a little bit further. Because I know I’m going to go to college in a year.”
Allen took an unofficial visit to James Madison on Saturday. He also found time to play a summer league game later that evening. On Sunday, he visited Delaware unofficially, and once again found time to compete in another summer league game in the afternoon. Allen say’s he’s being recruited hardest by UAB right now.
“Coach (Robert) Ehsan is a good guy and someone I can really trust,” said Allen.
Schools like the Allen goes go north south. He’s a downhill player who can play both positions. He can come off the ball and score, but can run a team at the 1. At the next level, he’s going to play a lot of point guard but will also be able to compliment another point guard off the ball. Allen anticipates making his college decision sometime around the start of WCAC season.
“I’m looking for a good relationship with the coaches. Someone who I can be really comfortable with, that I can talk to at any time,” said Allen. “Somewhere where my family can see a home game here and there. A place with a good fan base.”
