Continue ReadingRising senior guard Keleaf Tate has been a standout performer this spring and summer. The sharpshooting playmaker has consistently produced on the grassroots circuit with Team Takeover Orange. A native of Kenilworth, Tate has been playing the game since second grade. He’s considered a leader among his teammates at Cesar Chavez. This past weekend at BSN Summer League, Tate continued to lead his team on both ends of the court and get it done at a high level.
“I’d a say I’m a sharpshooter from the 3 point line,” Tate began. “I gotta change my game up a little big cause everybody in the DMV knows I can shoot the ball. So I gotta take it off the dribble and drive to the basket.”
The skilled young guard is really emerging this summer. At 6-foot-2, Tate is a long-limbed lead guard who can play on or off the ball. He’s an underrated distributor who is unselfish and demonstrates good vision.
“I think I can play point guard or shooting guard at the next level,” said Tate. “My goal for the summer is to get stronger.”
Division 1 programs have taken notice. Quinnipiac became the first D1 program to offer Tate a scholarship. Xavier, James Madison, and Mount St. Mary’s have each expressed interest. Tate has also received a Division 2 offer from Virginia Union.

It hasn’t been easy for Tate growing up in Kenilworth. People close to him have been murdered and imprisoned. His story has been well-documented by local media. It’s refreshing to see Tate be rewarded for his efforts on the court. Look for more division 1 programs to keep close tabs on him this July.
