The 6-foot-1 Mercer County point guard has heard little for college programs so far — one Division II and a Division III. But it’s one of the Midwest’s best academic D3 programs.
“I’ve gotten letters from some small D2s and some D3 schools. I’ve seen letters from University of Chicago and then Findlay — just those two for now,” said Dunning.
“I’d say it’s (recruitment) a priority. I hope it just comes together the way I wanted, and I can get an offer or a half scholarship or something.”
Not only is he cerebral on and off the court, but he’s a defensive-minded player, who prides himself in leadership ability.
“My biggest strength is probably my on-ball defense. And then my leadership skills at point guard; being able to run the team is another skill of mine. And also getting to the basket, and my ball-handling,” said Dunning.
“I’m looking to improve my jump-shot and my pull-up, and looking to improve my 3 point shot more than anything else.”
He’ll look to make those improvements this summer while playing with his 17U grassroots team Kentucky Prodigy.
“The spring went good. My jump-shot is coming along, I’ve started hitting and shooting more confidently. This summer I think we’re going to nationals, and I plan on competing hard there and we’re hoping to win that,” said Dunning.
“I’m hoping to get some college interest, maybe some D2 interest.”
