“I’ve talked to a couple of coaches like Samford, and Eastern Kentucky. I had a little visit to EKU and watched them play Morehead State, and I talked to their coaches too,” said Boone.
He says he notices guys around him getting recruited — he plays with supremely talented Louisville Magic — but that he’s not overly concerned with all that stuff right now.
“I’m not really so much thinking about it too much. I mean, I see all these guys around me getting recruited everywhere, and they’re working hard. But I’m working hard too. And I think next year will be my best year; and I’ll get some scouts looking at me. I’m getting bigger, and stronger, and taller.”
A pass-first point guard with the Magic, Boone says he can turn it on and score at the rim and in transition when needed, which is the case with his high school team.
“I think as a player what I can do is, I can distribute the ball and get my teammates open. I just like to get in the lane and kick, and I just like to come off screens and drive. I really like to get up and down,” said Boone, who as a sophomore averaged 16.4 points, 5.6 assists and 4.3 steals per game.
“Since we didn’t have much over at Tates Creek, I had to score a little more than I normally would have to,”
And those steals numbers are of the chart.
“I love defense, I think it’s more fun than offense,” said Boone. “It’s what starts transitions, and it’s the main part of basketball. If you can’t guard anyone, then you can’t stop the other team from scoring.”
With Louisville Magic this summer, Boone will continue to be a distributor, while working to improve his J.
“I really don’t have to score because we have so many other dominant scorers on the team,” said Boone. “I’m just a scrappy, get-on-the-floor-guy, and I get out there and play defense. And I’m really working on my jump-shot, that needs to improve.”
