Young to Announce Huge Decision
Trae Young is one of the top Point Guards in the country. He has silenced any doubters with his performance this spring on the Nike EYBL. Young will announce what school he plans to attend for his senior year tomorrow.
Young has attended Norman North high school three years and last year led the Timberwolves all the way to the State Championship Game. Now Young faces the decision to go to prep school or to attend Norman North for his final year of high school.
If Young decides to come back to Norman North he will have his work cut out for him with Marcus Dickinson and Lindy Waters graduated. Not to mention Cameron Martin has moved back to Yukon. Every sign points towards Young likely leaving Oklahoma for his senior season.
However, if Young leaves Norman North and heads to prep school it won’t be because he has anything to prove on the court. Young has dominated the Nike EYBL this spring against the best players across the country. How impressive has he been? Young is averaging 21.3 points and 7.1 assists per game on 44% shooting from the floor.
Young is known across the country for his incredible shooting stroke from behind the arc. One area of Young’s game that has been brought to light this spring is his vision. Defense has not been one of his bright spots, but Young has improved on defense as well averaging 1.9 steals per game in the EYBL. Right before our eyes Young is becoming a complete Point Guard.
Over his three years at Norman North Young has had an incredible stretch. Last season Young averaged 33.4 points per game on 51% shooting at Norman North. If Young does return he could have the best statical season by any player in Oklahoma history.
Young has done a lot for Oklahoma bringing the state national recognition with his high level play. He likely will be named to the McDonald’s All-American and Jordan Brand Classic games along with several other accolades.
If Young decides to go to prep school he will likely attend Monteverde Academy in Florida. The prep school route would take him away from the place he has called home since he was little, but it would put him against high level competition non-stop making him ready for the college game. Young would travel the country with Monteverde playing against the top players in the country night in and night out.
Monteverde is very well known around the country as one of the best prep schools. Ben Simmons is the most recent high profile graduate of Monteverde.
The decision Young makes tomorrow will have a huge impact on the Oklahoma high school basketball landscape next year. If he comes back, Norman North will once again be in the hunt for the Class 6A Gold Ball. Young plans to announce his decision tomorrow morning through USA Today and the Oklahoman.
