“Alice Lloyd is looking at me, Pikeville is looking at me, Loyola (Maryland) still is, just about everyone who was interested before still is. With Pikeville I’ve gotten some letters, and with Loyola I’ve got some letters, and I’m supposed to take a visit to Pikeville soon,” said Russell.
“It (recruitment) is a pretty high priority for me, and I hope it turns out good. I’m hooping to pick up some offers pretty soon.”
After averaging 24 points and 8 rebounds per game last winter as a junior, Russell — who has been starting since 8th-grade — reflected on what it was that made him so successful.
“I’ve been getting a lot better off-the-dribble and getting a lot stronger and more quick with my lateral,” said Russell.
“I thought my role last year was to be a scorer and a leader. And to just help the team win.”
After playing with Hoop Dreams last spring and summer, Russell has switched to Team Vision for this offseason.
“They were just offering better exposure for colleges to look at me. And they get their guys out there a little bit more, and I just thought it was a good switch for me,” said Russell.
“We’ve been playing really good, my role is scoring, being a good shooting guard, and to rebound.”
