Fortunately for Reese Mona, a class of 2017 guard out of St. John’s College High School, he takes pride in playing with a lot of heart and maximum effort each time he hits the court. The 6-foot-3 guard has been an important factor to Baltimore Elite’s success on the AAU circuit this spring.
Reese gained a great deal of experience as a WCAC Champion during the high school season with St. John’s. He also stepped up and assumed some ball-handling duties for Baltimore Elite, while without Immanuel Quickley last week at the Hoop Group Southern Jam Fest. His improved skill-set was on display, as he did a nice job mixing it up offensively.
“I think I did alright. You know we’re missing a few players so I gotta step up and improve my role more,” Mona explained. “You know step up, try to score more. Make more happen.”
And step up is exactly what he did. The rising senior is fearless, and plays with a consistent and tireless motor. He’s put in long hours in the gym to polish his offensive ability, and the results are starting to show.
“My ability to attack is underrated,” Mona began. “I usually am not able to, cause I’m usually just catch and shoot. But I’ve been working on my driving and finishing.”
Division 1 schools are finally taking notice of Reese’s value. He landed his first scholarship offer from Wagner this spring. A high academic student who sports an outstanding 4.3 GPA, Columbia, UPenn, and NJIT have Mona firmly on their radar. Schools love his positive attitude, and never-say-die approach. His ability to defend the 1 or the 2 at the next level is well noted, and that will only help his transition into the next level.
