“I don’t think so,” said Triplett, when asked if there’s any particular colleges who are interested in his game.
Triplett, an unsigned prospect heading into his senior year, sees himself as a high Division II athlete, citing the University of Findlay as a program that he sees as a potential landing spot.
Toledo’s best kept secret is known for his jump shot, whether it’s spotting up from deep or pulling off the dribble. However, it’s clear Triplett prides himself on abilities other than shooting.
“You’re not going to take the ball from me. I’m a pretty decent defender. And I play hard,” said Triplett.
But that doesn’t mean he’s satisfied, or doesn’t understand that there’s work yet to be done.
“I started off with the Michigan Mustangs [this summer], but we’re in the offseason right now so we have just been going to workouts and stuff,” Triplett said. “My dad has me working on my ball-handling and the coaches want me to get a lot stronger because last year I struggled with finishing inside. So finishing drills, like finishing through contact.”
Triplett added that defense is a point of emphasis this summer.
He played two years of varsity ball with Toledo Whitmer as a freshman and sophomore before transferring to Toledo Central Catholic. OHSAA regulations forced Triplett to miss the first half of last season.
Upon returning his impact was felt immediately, quickly transitioning from sixth man to starter. The junior finished as Central’s leading scorer (12.5 PPG), including a composed 17 points on his former home court.
As he continues to bulk up, which will limit turnovers and bring consistency at the rim, we expect college coaches at both the Division II and Division III level to begin dialing his number. Things are just getting warmed up for Triplett, as the fervor of recruitment will almost certainly warm up during his senior season.
