By itself, a 47% clip from 3-point is enough to stretch the defense in such a way that the floodgates could swing open.
This ability has attracted an offer from Fisk University (Tennessee). Along with that offer, Belmont and the hometown Cincinnati Bearcats are very much on his radar.
“I have said that I was going to go to UC. But I’m still open to switching up,” Benson said. The University of Cincinnati is yet to offer.
West Virginia Tech has also made a recent push. “They were just kind of talking to me the other day and hopefully I’m going to be getting an offer from them soon, but I’m not positive,” Benson said.
This period of uncertainty on a college decision is one in which many families are currently handling. Benson knows that continuing to improve his game is all he can control.
“I work out pretty much every day after school,” saying that he would be willing to sneak into his high school gymnasium if necessary. “I love to shoot. I just love it.”
Most see Benson as a prominent player for a Division II program, or a walk-on at the Division I level. When asked if he is willing to walk-on without a full-ride, Benson gave an emphatic, “Oh yeah.”
Prestigious competition is not something that phases the 6’2” shooting guard. His steady offensive production has been awarded byway of 2nd team All-Eastern Cincinnati Conference as a senior. He has also impressed against the strongest AAU teams in Ohio.
Benson will continue to strengthen his defense, as he understands that end of the floor needs some cleaning up. However, we expect the coach who is willing to take a chance on Benson to be happy he did so. His range may even dazzle the home crowd along the way.
