Continue ReadingSalem Northwestern’s 6-foot-9 power forward Derek Koch has bolstered his list of offers into double-digits. And after a strong start to the spring, he’s one of the Midwest’s hottest prospects.
Currently he holds offers from; Toledo, Akron, Oakland, Bowling Green, Ball State, Kent State, Tennessee Tech, Cornell, Brown, Lehigh, and Robert Morris.
His GPA is a 3.2 and, and he’s planning taking the ACT June 10th. Koch says academics and if a school has what the wants to study will be key to his final decision.
“Once school’s out my recruitment will be my number one priority, and I’m hoping to make my decision by this upcoming fall,” said Koch. “
“I’m not really sure what I want to get into, but I want to make sure it’s something I enjoy. I’m not going to go to a school just for basketball, but I want to get into a career path that I would like to be in.”
PHO’s 5th-ranked 2017, Koch cites defense as a strength of his, and he’s continuing to evolve into the trendy stretch-four position.
“My strengths right now are for sure rebounding and defense. And I’ve gotten a lot better at finishing at the rim,” said Koch.
“I need to continue to work on my outside shooting, and taking people off the dribble.”
While playing with one of the best programs in the state this offseason, Koch is not so much concerned with his personal recruitment, but more-so simply winning games.
“In high school I play pretty much every position, basically one through five. But with OBC I play just a power forward,” said Koch.
“I just want to win with this team, that’s my main goal. I feel like we can win out for the rest of the year.”
