What was most striking about Coburn was his length — not only does he possess great height, but long arms to boot. He will be an elite shot-blocker over the next three seasons. Also a high-motor and soft touch around the rim make him a near complete package.
2019 Aidan Vanderloo, 6′ G, Martin Brothers (Sioux City East)
It was my first viewing of Vanderloo, and like Coburn what was most striking was his great length. He’s about 6-foot, but his with his long arms he plays much bigger. He is a great shot-maker and possesses an innate basketball IQ on both ends of the floor.
2019 Carter Cuvelier 6’3 G/F, Martin Brothers (Aplington-Parkersburg)
The Falcons have a good one coming through he ranks with this big and versatile wing. He was at times the best player on the floor for a supremely talented Martin Brothers squad. And he is able to beat you off the dribble or hit a jumper.
2018 Jackson Joens 6’5 G/F, Martin Brothers (Xavier)
It’s a bit puzzling to me how this kid does not have any D1 offers yet, but they will come. He’s got great size and a beautiful stoke from deep. The recent state champ is a good passer for a wing, with a nice understanding of the game, and is a lights-out 3-point shooter.
2018 Luke Vaske, 6′ PG, Martin Brothers (Norwalk)
He was identified by us very early-on as one of the state’s best point guards, and after a sensational sophomore season with the Warriors he is having a very nice offseason with Martin Brothers. He’s developed into a true floor general, and is a tremendous outside shooter too.
2019 Tyreke Locure, 5’9 PG, Kingdom Hoops (Des Moines North)
It’s very possible that the uncanny guard could jump up from his already very high ranking (4th) when the new 2019s are released later this month. He is a one-man wrecking machine on defense, swiping at least six steals in the game I saw, and offensively he’s a wizard with the ball and has a jumper.
2019 Lino Malual, 6’2 G/F, Kingdom Hoops (Des Moines North)
Great leaping ability and an ability to slash to the rim are what set this young prospect apart. He played with a very good Des Moines North varsity last season as a freshman, so that speaks to his skill level. And he was one of the best leapers I saw last weekend, making him an excellent rebounder from the guard spot.
2019 Trayvion Williams, 6’1 G, Iowa Elite (Valley)
A great athlete who has an uncanny ability to make difficult shots. He puts himself in a position to get shots down with great dribble penetration and blow-by speed. When Iowa Elite needs a bucket they go to Williams.
2019 Jack Keough, 6′ PG, Iowa Elite (Dowling)
Sound ball-handling, tremendous court-vision, and great speed make him a top point guard in 2918. And though he did not play up in a strict Dowling hierarchy last season, he would have certainly played at least some varsity minutes with most 4A programs in the state.

2019 Grant Garwood, 6’5 G/F, Iowa Elite (Urbandale)
Garwood is a huge wing, who can knock in a 3-ball just as well as he can bang in the post. He’s cut from the same mold as the oft-written about Luke Appell from Marshalltown; and both could develop into high-level basketball players by the end of their high school careers.
