“Emotionally I’m excited,” Dickinson said. “I’ve came along ways, in my basketball career and to know I made it this far is a blessing. But I’m no where near satisfied because I still have tons of people out there to prove wrong.”
Despite a great career at Norman North and good showing on the Nike EYBL Circuit with Athletes First Dickinson was still overlooked. Oklahoma prospects fly under the radar often times, Dickinson is certainly a player that was overlooked. The recruiting process is different for every player. For Dickinson it was a very difficult time.
“It was the longest and toughest thing I have ever had to go through,” Dickinson said. “So many text everyday from coaches can get overwhelming and frustrating.”
The relationships Dickinson built with the coaching staff sold him. Playing for a great coaching staff was high on Dickinson’s priority list.
“Just the relationship with the coaching staff,” Dickinson said. “With Boise State being a winning program it just made things click easy for me.”
Boise State Assistant Phil Beckner was his main recruiter during the process. Beckner coached Damian Lillard at Weber State and remains very close with Lillard training him when possible throughout the year. Beckner’s great track record played a part in Dickinson’s decision too.
“I am most looking forward to playing against the best players in the world,” Dickinson said. “Developing more as a student athlete and a basketball player.”
