Circuit Teams
Phoenix Phamily had a great showing in their opening weekend of EYBL play. The Marvin Bagley led group finished 2-1 defeating both RM5 Elite (TX) and Detroit’s The Family by double digits. The fell by two points to Alabama Challenge but proved themselves as a contender for the EYBL title. The I-10 Celtics 16U group played their first round of games on the Adidas Gauntlet Silver Division circuit, finishing 3-1 losing only to Jets/Ramey United out of the Saint Louis area.
Las Vegas
There were some very good showings by the Arizona teams in Vegas. At the Pangos Spring Spectacular Arizona Power Factory 17U showed well, going 3-1, losing in the first round of the tournament. In addition, both, Arizona Aces Unsigned Seniors and AZ Firestorm made runs in the 17U Platinum Division. The Firestorm made it to the final four of the Platinum Bracket while the Aces were runner up in the Silver Bracket. At the 16U level Arizona Power Factory went 4-1 en route to being named tournament runner ups.
The Big Foot Grand Opening featured some of the lesser known Arizona travel teams but a few certainly looked to make a name for themselves, especially in the lower division. At the 17U level Team Artis Elite, True Ballerz, and Arizona Grassroots all advanced to the Gold Brackets with 1-1 record in pool play before being knocked out of the event. At the 16U level AIMHIGH Elite Athletes Blue reached the Final 4 of the Platinum Bracket with a 3-1 record while Arizona Empire reached the title game of the Gold Bracket with a 3-2 record. Empire’s 15U group duplicated their success, reaching the championship game of the Gold Bracket with a 2-2 record. Also falling in the Gold Bracket was AZ Aces Elite and Tucson Kings. AIMHIGH Elite Athletes Blue and Arizona Diplomats both finished with 2-1 record, losing in the opening round of the Platinum Bracket.
Southern California
The Double Pump Spring Hoopfest featured a plethora of teams from Arizona who showed well. In the 17U open division Team Zona finished strong with a 3-1 record. The 17U Gold division saw AZ Power North Platinum reach the Elite 8 of the Premier Bracket with a 4-1 record. AZ Power Red and AZ Power Red Tucson, who both finished 3-2, reached the Final 4 of the Select Bracket bracket. In the 16U Division AZ Power Elite reached the Final 4 of the Gold Bracket (including a one point victory over Arizona Prospects). Team Zona fell in the Elite 8 of the Gold Bracket by two points to Paul Pierce’s The Truth EYBL 15U group. Other 16U groups that showed well including AZ Power Select/Price (3-1), AZ Power Tucson Red (2-1), and Arizona Prospects (2-1). The 15U Division saw a strong showing by AZ Power Tucson Red who finish 2-1 en route to making the Gold Bracket Elite 8.
The West Coast Elite Spring Hoops Review also featured a lot of Grand Canyon State talent. At the 17U level there was a ton of success as Powerhouse Red and Powerhouse Black both finished 4-0 while Powerhouse White finished 3-1. In the 16U division Powerhouse Black sported a 4-0 record as did Powerhouse Tucson Black while Alvin Gentry Elite finished 3-1. The 15U level saw Powerhouse Black dominate, finishing with a 4-0 record as well.
