With the spring fast approaching Prep Hoops presents the top ten sleepers in the 2017 Oklahoma Class. The 2017 Class has a chance to be the deepest class in the history of Oklahoma. Trae Young, Brady Manek and Ethan Chargios headline the class.
- Elijah Landrum 2017 MOKAN Point Guard
Yes, Landrum is ranked in the Top 150 in the country, but he is on the 2017 Oklahoma Sleepers list because he is still somewhat under the radar. Landrum will have a different role coming off the bench this summer with MOKAN. Landrum will have to make his opportunities on the floor count this summer. He currently holds offers from Tulsa, Houston, Florida International University, Oral Roberts, UMKC and SMU.
2. Marvin Johnson 2017 Team Griffin Shooting Guard
Johnson is a long wing with great upside. This summer Johnson will get a chance to prove he can handle the national stage in the NIKE EYBL. Johnson is a scorer that focuses on driving strong to the rim. He has a nice jumper that he has continued to improve on each time out. This will be a massive summer for Johnson to breakout of Ardmore, Oklahoma and show his talents to the nation.
3. Marques Wilson 2017 Team Griffin Combo Guard
Wilson is coming off a huge breakout season at Edmond North this year. Wilson switched positions on offense playing the 2 guard spot. The experience will be valuable to Wilson as he learned a lot and focused on improving his three-point shot. Wilson turned into a three-point sniper for the Huskies. Now the focus for Wilson turns back to the Point Guard spot for Team Griffin on the Nike EYBL. Wilson could blow up on the national stage.
4. Cameron Martin 2017 Team Griffin Power Forward
Martin has great footwork for a big man in the paint. He had several injuries throughout the high school season, which limited him at times. However, Martin fought through the injuries and played. It is unlikely schools will get a chance to see Martin this summer as he had surgery on his knee. With Martin missing the summer it will hurt his recruitment, but don’t sleep on his inside presence.
5. RJ Fuqua 2017 Oklahoma Run PWP
Fuqua holds an offer from Oral Roberts heading into the Spring. He is extremely under the radar because he did not play last summer. For the first time in his career Fuqua will be featured on the national stage on the Under Armor Circuit. Fuqua is an undersized Point Guard with a tight handle, the clutch gene for big shots and the vision to throw dimes to teammates. Fuqua will pick up more offers before the summer ends with his toughness.
6. Caleb Nero 2017 Team Griffin Combo Guard
Nero is a scorer at the 1 or the 2 for Team Griffin. He can do a little bit of everything with the rock in his hands. Nero holds a Division I offer from UNC Greensboro heading into the spring live periods. He had a big summer last year on the NIKE EYB 16U Circuit. Now Nero gets a chance to prove it on the biggest stage with Team Griffin in the Nike EYBL. Nero will be a big piece for Team Griffin this summer.
7. Brewster Peacock 2017 Oklahoma Impact Shooting Guard
Peacock may be the biggest sleeper on this list. He doesn’t play on a shoe team, but all it takes is watching him once to see Peacock can play. Peacock is a long wing with a deadly three-point shot. Peacock will be playing in several big events this spring and summer with his AAU team Oklahoma Impact. He has the chance to pull in multiple Division I looks before the summer is over.
8. Burke Putnam 2017 Oklahoma Run PWP Point Guard
Putnam had a big time season at East Central leading the Cardinals to the State Tournament for the first time in quite some time. Putnam is still learning the game at the Point, but has several qualities in his game that you just can’t teach. Putnam bring it night in and night out on the floor. He is not scared to guard anyone no matter what size they are Putnam will get in there grill and play them tough. Putnam excels at getting to the basket. He will need to continue to work on his jumper over the summer. He could be a guard that blows up quickly depending on how he performs on the UA Circuit.
9. Stefone Richardson 2017 Oklahoma Run PWP Point Guard
Richardson holds an offer from Sam Houston State as he enters the spring with Oklahoma Run PWP on the Under Armor Circuit. Richardson is a really quick guard who is high volume shooter. He can play off the ball, but excels with the basketball in his hands. Richardson is coming off a decent showing at Edison this year. It will be interesting to see how he plays this summer against some of the best.
10. Adrian Rodriguez 2017 Oklahoma Run PWP Power Forward
Rodriguez is an undersized four man that out works most on the floor. He is constantly hustling, battling for a rebound and playing tough defense. He showed early this spring against RM5 Elite that he can handle his own in the paint. He has improved his offensive game over the past year. Rodriguez has an offer from Air Force on the table heading into the spring. If he plays to his capabilities on the Under Armor Circuit he will get some Division I looks.
Caleb Bennett 2017 Oklahoma Run PWP Shooting Guard
Bennett may be the most talented player on this list. He is an out of state kid playing with Oklahoma Run PWP on the Under Armor Circuit. Bennett will blow up it is only a matter of time. He holds offers from Tulsa, Oral Roberts and the University of Northern Iowa. Bennett is an athletic freak with a smooth jumper. He will be the go to guy for Oklahoma Run PWP 17U Elite squad on the UA Circuit.
