He committed to the Oilers before his junior season started, and hopes to come in and make an immediate impact in 2017.
“I liked Findlay right away, I went down to two camps, and I really liked the coaches and the guys on the team and I knew I could come in and make an impact right away there. It was a full-ride and the kind of opportunity I didn’t want to pass up,” said the Cleveland St. Edward junior.
The 6-foot prospect has worked hard over the past year to evolve as a true point guard, and he says he‘s become a better floor general in the process.
“I think I really got a lot smarter, like a better IQ, and became more of an actual point guard; fewer jump-shots and more assists, more steals,” says Schmock, who had a fantastic junior season with the Eagles.
“I was the leading scorer and we had a pretty good year. I played a lot and it was a good year, I averaged 15.5 points and 3.2 steals, around 4 rebounds and 4 assists”
He’ll carry the momentum from his strong regular season into his 17U summer, where he’ll once again be playing with Ohio Basketball Club.
“I’ve kind of just been the guy to take care of the ball, knock-down open shots, and feed our big-men. I kind of just take care of the ball and run the show,” said Schmock.
“I just want to get a lot better this summer and just kind of have fun while doing it. We qualified to play in South Carolina for the adidas Gauntlet, so I just want to have fun there.”
