“I feel like the season went really well,” started McGlothan. “Just short of our goals. We wanted to win it all this year but didn’t have our best game against Mesa. I’m proud of it but not content.”
The 6’5″ junior forward averaged 12 points and 11 rebounds en route to being the team’s most consistent performer. After filling in for an injured Devin Kirby late during his sophomore year, Gabe stepped up this season as the team’s leader. He improved in numerous ways through the process.
“(I) gained more mentally about the game than I did physically. It was more about what was the best shot instead of me taking the shot.
McGlothan saw numerous defenders when he touched the ball this season but adjusted well.
“I learned to make smart decisions in game situations. My IQ about the game increased.”
While Gabe has developed well over the course of the year. However, he understands there is still work to be done and he’s in the gym making it happen.
“I need to spread out my game more. Becoming a better shooter. Dribbling and driving as well.”
McGlothan believes that continuing to add versatility to his skillset will be a huge part of his development.
“I want to be unguardable next year. Put a big man on me, drive by or shot. If they put a smaller guard on me then (I’ll) post.”
Gabe opted to play with Arizona Power Black after playing an integral part in keeping Glen Mayberry’s group together.
“I believe this season will be huge. We have a great team and should show a lot of strength with our talent, chemistry, and unselfishness.”
Eastern Washington, Grand Canyon, Montana State, North Dakota, Northern Colorado, and Portland State have all offered McGlothan. In addition Loyola-Chicago, Utah Valley, Washington State, and Weber State have shown increased interest.
“(I’m looking for) a school that has a great basketball program but also engineering classes. I want to major in architectural or mechanical engineering.”
Though he hasn’t taken his ACT or SAT, Gabe posts a 3.8 GPA. He plans on making a decision by November.
“I’m just excited to see how this year goes. Many things to be added to my game. I’m excited for it; can’t wait!”
