He’s currently playing his 17U season in the Northeast with New York-based program, but most of his current interest is from the Bluegrass region.
“I have one offer from Middle Tennessee State. And I have interest from; Lipscomb University, UNC-Asheville, Morehead State, Eastern Kentucky, VCU is also showing interest, and Tennessee Tech is also showing interest as well,” said Nelson.
“I would have to say Tennessee Tech and EKU are the most interested. Besides Middle Tennessee State, I’ve heard the most from those two programs.”
Nelson added: “Recruitment is definitely something big for me right now. I’m just trying to stay open to everything and see what kind of offers I can receive.”
A 6-foot-4 point guard who gets after it on both ends of the floor, Nelson is becoming one of the state’s most complete players.
“I’m very athletic, and I like to block shots. I’m mostly good at mid-range jump shots, and I’m very crafty and smooth at the same time,“ he said.
“I need to work on my perimeter jump shot. This season I shot a way better percentage than I did my sophomore season.”
After a strong sophomore season, in which he averaged 17 points, 5 assists and 6 rebounds, Nelson took his talents to New York — where he stays with family in the summer — and plays with New Heights.
“I like the way they treat their kids, and the way they run their program. And they have the best interest in heart for me right now,” said Nelson. “And they just need to me to be a go-to scorer so, that’s what I’ve been doing lately.”
