Grassroots Preview: Louisville Magic
Louisville Magic Program Director: Ellis Myles
Affiliation: adidas
17u Head Coach: Ellis Myles
17u Assistant Coaches: Dean Baumert
17u Roster:
2017 SF Tony Jackson (North Hardin) 6’4″
2017 PG Anthony Mathis Jr. (Kentucky Country Day) 6’0″
2017 SF Caleb Williams (Eastern) 6’5″
2017 WG Jaylen Sebree (Christian County) 6’6”
2017 C Chris Vogt (Graves County) 6’10”
2017 G Trace Young 6’8″
2017 PG David “Day Day” Sloan (Taylor County) 5’10”
2016 F DeAndre Dishman (Bryan Station) 6’7″
2017 Chance Moore (Eastern) 6’5″
2016 Marquis McLendon (DuPont Manual) 6’2″
Notes: This Magic squad is very, very talented. Jaylen Sebree is an Indiana target. Chris Vogt is a defensive dynamo. Indiana State is high on Vogt. Middle Tennessee has offered and he has camped with WKU and Vanderbilt. Trace Young is a dynamic slasher with a Delonte West-type game. Donald Sloan and JR Mathis make this team go. Sloan’s stock jumped last July. He is a little ahead of the rest of the team with his recruitment, but doesn’t play selfishly. The 2016 pair, Dishman and McClendon, are only with the team for the spring. Dishman added an EKU offer this week. Chance Moore has had a nice uptick this month. Both Tony Jackson and Caleb Williams are fire on the glass. Forward Jackson might be a notch short for high-major, but he belongs on a college team.
16u Head Coach: Ellis Myles
16u Roster:
2018 SG Steven Fitzgerald (Southwestern Pulaski) 6’3″
2018 G Danny Butt (Southwestern Pulaski) 6’2″
2018 PG Eric Boone (Bryan Station) 5’10”
2018 C Umar Keita (Cordia) 6’10”
2018 F Rashawn McCauley (Male) 6’4″
2018 PG Brennan Hall (Newport Catholic) 6’0″
2018 F Noah Hawkins (DuPont Manual) 6’5″
2018 Evan Nichols (Floyd Central) INDIANA
2018 G Jordan McClendon (Louisville Manual) 6’2″
2018 G Delvonte McCloud (Doss) 6’5″
2018 F Dorion Tisby (Ballard) 6’2″
2018 G Willie Hill (Pleasure Ridge Park) 6’4″
Notes: Brothers Steven Fitzgerald and Danny Butt serve as the backbone of the team. The both do everything on the floor. You want a rebound? Fitz got you. Need a slick dime? Danny will drop one off. Their return makes a difference. Trey Hill is a combo guard with nice agility. Jordan McClendon is overlooked regionally, but can really play. Truthfully, this team needs a little more height. Thankfully Hill, Fitzgerald, Dorion Tisby, and Rashawn McCauley are plus rebounders for wings and small forwards.
15u Roster: Dean Baumert
2019 PG Isaiah Allen (Lexington Tates Creek) 6’0″
2019 F Mo Mohammed (Shawe Memorial) 6’5″ Indiana
2019 G Anthony Russell (Moore Traditional) 6’3”
2019 G Reese Tolley (Butler) 5’9″
2019 G Bradley Nalley (Corydon Central) 6’1″ Indiana
2019 G Hunter McCutchen (Male) 6’1″
2019 F Zachary Gray (Male) 6’4″
2019 G Jacob Robinson (Robinson) 5’8″
2019 G Bryce Long (Scott County) 6’0″
2019 C Justin Weaver (Moore) 6’6″
Notes: Coach Baumert’s 15u team had a great weekend in Nashville. They play hungry, which always helps at the younger levels. JJ Weaver helps in the lane. Bryce Long is a go-go scorer. The entire backcourt group plays quick and smartly.
