The GASO Midwest took place this past weekend in the sparkling new Fast Forward Facility in Wichita, Kansas. Many of Oklahoma’s finest grassroots teams made their way north of the border to compete. These are are a few standouts from this weekend’s action.
2018 Playmakers Express Select Shooting Guard Brooks Haddock
Haddock was on fire from all areas of the floor on Saturday. He started the game hot from deep and washable to adjust to a variety of defenses as the game went on. Haddock fits well with this team and should have more success as the primary scorer throughout the summer.
2017 Playmakers Express Elite Point Guard Tyreece Berry
Berry has shown in the past that he can be a high volume score with majority coming from beyond the arc. In his first game, Berry gave held back his shot in order to find opportunities for others. He passed the ball well in transition leading his teammates to easy buckets. Berry also poured in 17 points of his own.
2017 Playmakers Express Elite Small Forward Barron Tanner
Size matters when it comes to Tanner and he uses it to his advantage. Standing at 6’5” Tanner uses his size and frame to compile easy buckets in the paint. He doesn’t have outstanding handle but handles the ball well enough to put it on the floor a time or two and rise over defenders for midrange jumpers. Tanner had a big weekend in Wichita, we expect more of the same from him down the road.
2017 OKC Wizards Point Guard Cameron Hines
Hines was one of the most outstanding players that touched the floor this weekend. He is true floor general and has proven that he can play with some of the best in the state. His game is difficult to key in on because he does so many things well. He is best described as a past first point guard who has the ability to score. In one outing he scored a game-high 30 points. Hines is extremely dangerous in the open floor because of his ability to finish at the rim and his ability to distribute the ball.
2017 OKC Wizards Shooting Guard Trent Crow
Crow is one of the more underrated guards in the 2017 but one of the most talented. He has great size to play the two guard. His shot is improving to become more consistent and his first step has improved for him to get easy buckets at the rim. Crow is in a great situation with the Wizards and will thrive throughout the summer.
2016 Upward Stars OKC Point Guard Micah Speight
Speight was one of the players who was steps above everyone else when he stepped on the floor. His baseline to baseline speed makes him hard to guard in transition. Speight has a quick releasing jumper and is lethal from range. He averaged 25.6 points per game for the weekend. Sleight says he hopes to make a college decision in the coming weeks.
2017 Servants Shooting Guard Trez Hankins
Hankins poured in a big performance against Upward Stars pouring in 31 points in a victory. He shot the ball well from distance and took over the game over when his team needed. Hankins is a newly discovered player but could pick up some steam as the summer roles on.
2017 Servants Power Forward Ben Jenkins
Jenkins had a huge weekend in the post for the Servants. In one outing he managed a monster double-double with 18 points and 19 rebounds. He also poured in 25 points in a win over the Upward Stars. Jenkins has lot of size at 6’6” and has developed decent footwork in the paint. With very little true bigs in Oklahoma, Jenkins will be a top target for local schools.
2017 OKC Storm Point Guard Kristoff Hayden
Hayden was a big factor in the run that the Storm made this past weekend. He ran the point majority of the time but was big in the scoring column. His handle leaves defenders on their heels leaving him enough space to get his shot off. Hayden has a great upside and will have a big summer with the Storm.
2018 Oklahoma Run PWP 17U Select Shooting Guard Colt Savage
Savage had a big year with Sand Springs and is now set to garner major attention. With PWP Select, Savage is going to be one of the primary scoring options. He has the size and strength to take advantage of smaller guards in the post. Savage also has the ability to create his shot off the dribble wether midrange or three-pointer. This summer will be huge for the development of his game.
