Notes: The first graduating class (2016) of SI Select has signed or is signing rapidly. For proximity to family, Zach Beel chose D2 Maryville over six D1 offers from as far reaching as Arkansas and Texas. Kyle Cox signed with Shawnee Community College. Andrew Voss signed with Lindenwood University (MO). In all, 11 out of Southern Illinois Select’s 13 graduating players will be signed by spring’s end.
“That is something I am pretty proud of,” said Program Director Riley Swinford.
Roiyell Nesbitt (IL) is the lone unsigned senior for the SI Select. He has an imposing 275-pound frame. The lefty has decent shooting touch, and can step out to 15′ and score. Recently, he played in a senior All-Star game, to score 38 points. He hit 10 three-pointers in the contest. The visual is jarring. JuCo is his preferred route, but look for him to push for D1 scholarships in two years.
Southern Illinois Select is predominately an Illinois-feeder team, but two Kentuckians feature prominently. (Ohio County HS) plays on the ball and Josh Wilkerson (Caldwell County HS) sees the floor very well, while pushing the action up the floor. Over the weekend Wilkerson really produced. During LIVE period on Saturday, Wilkerson netted 23 points along with five assists and four steals against the Illinois Bears. Wilson has D1 offers from North Texas and Louisiana-Lafayette. Both Austin Peay and Southern Miss have expressed some interest in Wilson. Winslow Martin II can score in the problem areas, and attack the basket with ferocity. Trey Johnson and Jake Floyd, and underclassman Isaiah Thompson hold down the blow blocks.
