Xavier won both the basketball game and the heart of a sophomore Hill.
“Xavier is one of my favorite teams now,” said Hill.
He was hosted by Xavier Director of Basketball Administration Mario Mercurio.
“They are the type of coaches that are professional,” said Hill. “They are not like other coaches. They take things very seriously and they seem very interested in me.”
“It was a good atmosphere,” said Hill. “When I was watching the game, the Xavier players were really hyped. You could tell they had that feeling, you could see it in their eyes that they wanted to win really bad.”
Xavier defeated Villanova, 90-83, repaying their largest loss of the season. Further, XU pushed their home record to a stunning 14-1 mark. Only Georgetown knocked off the Musketeers in Cincinnati this year.
“Their student sections were really hyped,” said Hill. “I was into the game because they were really in to it.”
XU has experience thwarting #1 teams, dating back to multiple home wins against the Cincinnati Bearcats. In fact, the Musketeers have won four of their last six games against #1 teams.
High Major Interest
Hill jumped onto the national radar as a freshman. He played really well at a couple of elite camps. Then he added a Western Kentucky offer. They remain his lone D1 offer, but several regional high-majors are tracking the combo guard.
“I hear from Xavier a lot,” said Hill “Wake Forest. Ball State recently.”
Ohio State reached out in the past. Louisville has hosted Willie and some AAU teammates for an unofficial.
“I hear from NKU,” said Hill. “Vanderbilt and Tennessee. Vandy requested transcripts. They said they liked the way I play and everything like that.”
The Commodores do not have a tradition of hoarding Kentucky-born recruits, but the VU squad does feature Cameron Justice (Hindman, KY).
Once again Hill will compete with the Louisville Magic this spring/summer. The Magic 16u team has multiple D1 players and also several D2 targets. Look for breakout performances from other Magic players like Oumar Keita, Ramon Mercado, and Hill.
